MESSAGE FROM HON. LUIGI DI MAIO, ITALIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

In such a delicate phase, it is essential for Italy to be able to maintain solid relations with other European countries and with the International community. Above all it is necessary to safeguard our businesses and our SMEs, that represent the country’s commercial backbone.
In last few hours we have been assured by many States that there will be no blockades or restrictions on us. And we are working with selected missions in other States and through correct information campaigns, in order to remove from non-recommended Italian destinations a series of Regions and Municipalities which are not affected.
Not only this but yesterday during the meeting of the Council of Ministers, I brought a specific plan that aims to correctly inform all foreign States about the real progress of situation in Italy. This is also a task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have secured all our nationals who were abroad, and now we have to think about curbing the spread of inaccurate or even false news that are disseminating abroad these days. The more fake news are spread, the more damage, even economically, our Country is going to suffer. And we cannot allow this to happen. It is no coincidence that I gave instructions to inform directly and punctually all the Ambassadors of other countries posted in Italy.
To continue this process of transparency towards other States, as anticipated in last few days, the first report has already been sent to our Embassies in the world with the precise data about coronavirus: numbers, outbreaks, involved geographic areas. And these reports will be updated on a daily basis.
It is our duty to act with the utmost seriousness by continuing to provide 24 hours support to our citizens and also protecting the economy of our country.

On Tuesday I convened a meeting to talk about Italian exports and Made in Italy. There are 300 million euros ready with the Italian Trade Agency for our companies and we will discuss together how to act better in this moment. Another 350 million euros will be allocated to the Sace-Simest export fund.

Finally, tomorrow will be the Italy-France summit in Naples with President Macron and this shows the confidence that other States have in Italy in continuing all the planned activities.
